####Today is Joe Montana day on Carney’s Corner
Mark Purdy of the San Jose Mercury News discusses the great
The [Joe Montana](http://www.sjmercury.com/sports/montana/docs/montana.htm)
Here’s just some of the numbers behind the legend:
- [49ers team records](http://www.sjmercury.com/sports/montana/docs/teamrec.htm)
- [NFL postseason records](http://www.sjmercury.com/sports/montana/docs/nflpost.htm)
- [NFL Super Bowl records](http://www.sjmercury.com/sports/montana/docs/sbrec.htm)
I think this says it all (from Mark Purdy’s article)
For example, once in the last game of a season, the 49ers already had clinched
home-field advantage for the playoffs. So the game basically meant nothing. Montana
knew, however, that wide receiver Mike Wilson had an incentive clause in his contract
that gave him a bonus for catching a certain number of passes.
“How many more do you need?_ Montana asked Wilson in the huddle during the first
quarter. “Two more?”
“Yeah,_ Wilson said. “Two more.”
And before halftime, Wilson got the two.
This side of Montana, who wasn’t a perfect
human being but was perfectly human and never tried to be otherwise, is what made the
man such an appealing figure.
