Obama increases lead in delegate count – CNN.com

From [CNN.com](http://www.cnn.com:)

With the victory, Obama added 17 delegates to his total while Clinton picked up 11, CNN estimates. The Mississippi win was Obama’s second win in a row, having won the Wyoming caucuses Saturday.

CNN Tuesday also projected that Obama was the winner of the Texas Democratic caucuses that occurred March 4. Obama will be awarded 38 of Texas’s delegates, while Clinton will win 29 delegates as a result of the caucuses, CNN estimates.

Does this mean that Hillary is going to drop out? I mean, she didn’t win Texas (although, that’s not her story), so her claims to winning the big states kinda falls flat.

I doubt it.

This is going to be an interesting sprint to the finish, and if the super delegates do the wrong thing (which I’m afraid they’ll do), and select Clinton, you’ll start hearing the changes of Selected, not Elected across the country… and that may be the only way that McCain can win.

More Clinton Shenanigans?

####Unofficial Tallies in City Understated Obama Vote

From [The NY Times](http://www.nytimes.com:)

Black voters are heavily represented in the 94th Election District in Harlem’s 70th Assembly District. Yet according to the unofficial results from the New York Democratic primary last week, **not a single vote in the district was cast for Senator Barack Obama**.

Uh….. does this in any way cast a doubt on the results from yesterday’s primaries in Ohio, etc.? I’d say the answer is a resounding yes!

Ordinarily, I’d question the source of this sort of thing, but it’s the New York Frickin’ Times!!!

D&D Co-Creator Gary Gygax Has Passed Away

From Slashdot

Mearlus writes "In the recent past co-creator of Dungeons and Dragons Gary Gygax has worked with Troll Lord Games, a small tabletop RPG publisher. Their forums have up a post noting that Mr. Gygax has apparently passed away. Gygax was known, along with Dave Arneson, as the Father of Roleplaying." Saddened reactions from well-known designers have already begun to appear online. Consider this is an in-memoriam Ask Slashdot question: How has D&D (and tabletop roleplaying) touched/improved your life?

I have to admit that I was one of those geeks that really enjoyed role playing, and continued to play into my mid 20’s (I have friends at work in their late 40’s that continue to play). It’s gaming for the mind rather than the instant visual and aural gratification of today’s video versions.

Thank you Mr. Gygax for enhancing my childhood and my life.

Intellectual Honesty and Why Names Matter (sort of)

Recently, right wing talk radio in general, and Jay Severin on WTKK in particular, has latched onto the fact that Barak Obama’s middle name is Hussein. This is clearly being done as a way to to try and associate Obama with our enemies in the war on terror by emphasizing the Islamic source of the name and implying that he is some sort of crypto-Muslim.

This tactic is at best disingenuous, and at worst purposefully deceptive.

The idea that Obama is in any way Muslim has been completely debunked, and yet the talk shows keep harping on it.

Let’s examine a hypothetical situation which, I think, clearly illustrates how truly onerous this tactic really is.

Let’s just say that Jay Severin is a pro-casino guy and that he lives in Middleboro, MA (the former perhaps true, but I’m not sure, and the latter demonstrably false, but this is, after all, hypothetical 🙂 ). And let’s just say that he decides he wants to run for town selectman. Imagine the (proper) outrage if his opponents started issuing campaign literature emphasizing the following:

Do you really want Jimmy Serevino on your board of selectmen when the biggest issue of the day is whether or not to allow organized crime into our neighborhoods in the form of a Casino?

The obvious (and abhorrent) implication here is that anyone of Italian ancestry is obviously connected to the mob, and that’s not the kind of person we’d want running our local government with the casino question pending… that would just be inviting the mob into Middleboro.

Is there anything factually wrong with the question being asked? No. Does the question imply something that’s probably (and mostly likely) wrong (that Jay is mobbed up)? Yes. Should we as a thinking electorate stand for such nonsense? Absolutely not.

So, people’s names don’t really matter. What matters is how the names are used. If they are used to identify someone, that’s fine. If they are used to disparage them, or imply untruths, or connections that don’t exist, it is completely unacceptable.

Tolkien Trust Sues New Line, May Kill “Hobbit”

From Slashdot:

oboreruhito writes "The AP is reporting that the Tolkien Trust and HarperCollins are suing New Line Cinema for $150 million in compensatory damages, unspecified punitive damages, and a court order revoking New Line’s rights to produce any more films on Tolkien properties. The Tolkien Trust says that New Line paid them only $62,500 to make ‘The Lord of teh Rings’ trilogy of films — instead of the agreed-upon 7.5 percent of gross receipts of all film-related revenue. The suit may set back, if not kill, a film adaptation of Lord of the Rings prequel ‘The Hobbit,’ which Peter Jackson had recently signed up to make after his own legal row with the studio over payment for the sequels."

NOOOooooo!!!! Please guys, work this out! After everything that’s happened to this project, the fact that it’s actually getting made now is amazing. Don’t ruin it now!

Herbie Hancock Wins!

From CNN.com:

Troubled Amy Winehouse had a great night at the Grammys, winning five awards, but in a shocking finish, the big award — album of the year — went to Herbie Hancock for “River: The Joni Letters.” Winehouse won the record and song of the year awards for “Rehab.”

This is for those that think that jazz is no longer relevant to music.

Go’bama!

From CNN.com:

Sen. Barack Obama carries momentum from a sweep of weekend contests into this week’s primaries in Maryland, the District of Columbia and Virginia. Sen. Hillary Clinton, meanwhile, is coming off a campaign shake-up, while her advisers are seeking to lower expectations for this month’s Democratic contests.

As of right now, Barack Obama leads in the delegate count, in states won, and the popular vote. Let’s hope it stays that way. I’ve been saying for close to 2 years that I want to vote for this guy, and now it looks like I might get the chance.
