I’ve been busy with a new job and I’ve let the site slip a bit.

Words to live by as a birthday approaches
[George Burns](http://www.quotationspage.com/quote/37772.html:) “You can’t help getting older, but you don’t have to get old.”
Tiger puts family first
Tiger may not play on the US PGA Tour until the US Open, and even then he [may not be back for a while](http://www.pga.com/news/tours/pga-tour/woods042006.cfm?rss.) Good for him.
Speaking as someone that’s lost a father (I was a little younger than [[Tiger]] is right now when I lost mine), he should spend as much time as possible with him before he goes. You can’t get the time back.
Battlestar Galactica wins Peabody!
“Battlestar Galactica,” a drama about a war-ravaged, homeless civilization attempting to begin anew, gave SCI FI Channel its first Peabody victory.
Sometimes you just gotta smile. Finally, people are getting the word that you can have good SF television!
I Feel Like a Fool
Today is tax preparation day…. could it be any more appropriate?
Which brings me to the topic of the day…. the US Tax system.
####Rant on Taxes
First off, let me say that I, like just about all Americans, feel that I pay too much in taxes, and that people that make more than me are somehow getting off easy. Why do I feel that way? Well, I think it’s rooted in fear…. fear that there’s a set of tax loopholes out there that, if you know the secret handshake and password, you have access to and that they will magically lower your taxes to zero.
But the real problem is that our taxes here are currently based on what should be considered private data: income. It is nobody’s business how much I make annually, let alone tax me on this amount. We need to find a substitute that is already part of the public domain.
Consumption.
That’s right. How much you spend is public disclosure… you have to make a transaction with another party. If we had some sort of value added tax instead of (not in addition to) our income tax, those that spend the most would pay the most, and since there is a direct correlation between income and spending levels, those that make the most would pay the most.
This too must end
Well, this is it. My last day at the old job…. the new adventure awaits.
This has been a very stressful time…. changing jobs is hard! If I have my way, this’ll be the last time that I go through this.
Instant HPDA?
It turns out that the Mead Ringdex is [nearly a perfect Hipster PDA!](http://www.diyplanner.com/node/760) Maybe I don’t need to spend a bunch of time thinking up an implementation to suit my needs.
Getting Things Done…
Well, I’m going to take the opportunity that a job change offers to try and get my life more organized. My preferred operating system is OSX. Is there anybody out there that knows of a good GTK implementation for OSX?
Can you taste it?
Spring is almost here. I know… the calendar says we’re already there, but baseball hasn’t started yet, and [[The Masters]] hasn’t happened. But we’re close…. we’re very very close!
Organizing myself for the new job…
I think I’m going to have to purchase a [Hipster PDA](http://www.43folders.com/2004/09/03/introducing-the-hipster-pda/.) From the website:
The Hipster PDA (Parietal Disgorgement Aid) is a fully extensible system for coordinating incoming and outgoing data for any aspect of your life and work. It scales brilliantly, degrades gracefully, supports optional categories and “beaming,” and is configurable to an unlimited number of options. Best of all, the Hipster PDA fits into your hip pocket and costs practically nothing to purchase and maintain. Let’s make one together.
All for around $3!
