Intel Developer Macs Outperform G5s
[Slashdot](http://slashdot.org/:) “bonch writes ‘Developers working with the new Intel-based, developer-only Macs are impressed with the performance. The machines take as little as 10 seconds to boot from Apple logo to desktop, and apparently run Windows XP at ‘blazing speeds.’ Rosetta tests demonstrate the PowerPC-native build of Firefox running just as fast as it does on a high-end G5.'”

Figures it would be Vijay that has something lame and unkind to say.

British Open Week!
I can’t wait for this year’s British Open at St. Andrews. I just finished reading a book entitled **The Spirit of St. Andrews*’ by ”’Dr. Alister MacKenzie**. The book is kind of a philosophical essay on how a golf course ”should* be architected. During the course of the book, he makes a strong case that St. Andrews is the greatest course in the world, not for its extreme beauty, but rather for the strategic decisions that confront golfers on every hole. The architect (if there even was one) doesn’t dictate how the hole should be played, but rather the golfer does. For instance, he describes in great detail the 11th hole in which each member of his foursome took completely different routes to the hole, varying in direction up to 100 yards left or right from the midline of the fairway in an effort to play around various hazards that are on the hole.
He also spoke of how, in his view, a hole cannot be truly great unless it can be played in its entirety with a putter! That is, a great hole should not exclude beginners who have difficulty carrying their shots long distances. But at the same time, it needs to be interesting and challenging to the professional.
Well, anyway, watch this week and you’ll see some golf unlike any that’s played elsewhere. It should be a lot of fun.
O’Connor to resign from Supreme Court
[CNN.com](http://www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/07/01/resignation.supreme/index.html:) “Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, the first woman to serve on the high court and the key swing vote in some of the nation’s highest-profile cases, announced her resignation Friday.”
Well, there it is. Now, please, Mr. President, please send a reasonable candidate to the Senate for confirmation. You know the type I mean… someone who doesn’t place the Bible ahead of the Constitution on matters of law.
Motorola iTunes Phone First Look Again Perhaps (Maybe)

[Gizmodo](http://www.gizmodo.com/:)
From purportedly leaked internal documents, here’s a first look at the Motorola iTunes phone. The most striking feature is clearly the scroll wheel, which could come into play for even non-music things like moving through stored phone numbers. There also appear to be dedicated buttons on the side—that’s not quite as ‘iPoddy’ as one would hope.
*Update: Mac Observer has a lot of details about how to expect this to work.*
This looks awesome! The only problem is **Verizon**. They’ve decided that this sort of device won’t give them enough opportunity for profit, so they’re not going to allow it to be used with their service. Get this… they think that if I want to listen to music on my phone I should have to pay them to get it on my phone! Let’s think about this for a second…
* I have a phone
* I have a computer
* I have a cable between them
* The Verizon network is nowhere in the picture
* But I have to pay them to do this?
What kind of extortion is this!
They did something similar on the Motorola V710 Bluetooth phone. Although bluetooth allows you to transfer files from one device to another, they’ve disabled this feature to force you to pay for their service to do exactly that.
You want to have that nice picture of your kid as the background on the screen of the phone? You gotta pay Verizon to get it there. Yeah… that makes sense.
I gotta tell you guys at Verizon… you’re rapidly loosing this customer.
Wie in second place!
Can you believe it? This is the most exciting thing in golf since Tiger’s magnificent run in 2000. What do you think… can Michelle pull it off and be the first amateur to win the event in decades… and beat the best women’s golfers in the world AT THE AGE OF 15!?!?!?!?! WOW!
