Deep Linking is Good Linking

Links that go directly to a site’s interior pages enhance usability because, unlike generic links, they specifically relate to users’ goals. Websites should encourage deep linking and follow three guidelines to support its users.

[[Jakob Nielsen]] is one of the leading experts in the useability of the internet. This piece talks about linking directly to stories inside a website instead of just linking to the top.

Of course, [[Vanila]] supports deep links 🙂

A Beautiful Mind

Not a bad film, just not a great one.

I went into this film with one thing in mind: what’s the big deal? This is supposed to be one of the best movies of the year, the main competition for [[The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring]] for the Best Picture Oscar.

After coming out of the theatre, I decided that it’s no contest.
*A Beautiful Mind* is a good, not great movie. I’ve been there, done that, and got the T-shirt.

##John Nash

John Nash is a genius. Of that there is little doubt. At the same time, there’s something wrong with his mind. He’s a scitzophrenic.

Pedestrian Wins Out over Art

The Writers Guild of America took the safe road.

I don’t get this one at all. Somehow the Writers Guild of America gave the Best Adapted Screenplay award to [[A Beautiful Mind]] instead of [[The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring]]. How can this possibly be?

I’ve seen both films, and Mind is a straight forward adaptation that, although interesting, is quite pedestrian. On the other hand, Fellowship is a monumental undertaking that takes risks and isn’t afraid to soar.

This is usually a prelude to the same award at the Oscars, and if so, I say shame on you to the writers guild.
