Sweeney family reunion information from defendersweeney@yahoo.com

Dear Michael –

This is a distant relative writing to tell you that I had found myself on your site when I googled myself. You must be related to Dr. James (& Toni nee Diamond) Carney, the dermatologist in Lakewood, Ohio. He worked on the Carney-Moran-Griffin family tree & has told my father that he & my father (Joe Sweeney) are second cousins. My father’s e-mail is rrsween@yahoo.com, and he and my uncles are working on a family tree (I know the original tree that you got your information from was prepared by my father & Uncle Edwin, because of the misspellings.)

Our greatgrandfather came from Roscommon, according to my father who is sitting here as I type. We are having a family reunion in Roanoak, WVa at the Stonewall Jackson Lake Lodge the weekend of August 12-14, 2005. I couldn’t pull up the information I found the first time I logged on. How do I access it?

I am a Sweeney-Kelly (28 of us we went to Ireland last year on a bus trip around the southern half of the Isle), and we have a common progenitor (sp?) named Darby Thornton. This may come up in your family tree?

When you have time, please e-mail back with any info that may link us.
Yours in family, Suzan Marie Sweeney

Intel Developer Macs Outperform G5s

[Slashdot](http://slashdot.org/:) “bonch writes ‘Developers working with the new Intel-based, developer-only Macs are impressed with the performance. The machines take as little as 10 seconds to boot from Apple logo to desktop, and apparently run Windows XP at ‘blazing speeds.’ Rosetta tests demonstrate the PowerPC-native build of Firefox running just as fast as it does on a high-end G5.'”

British Open Week!

I can’t wait for this year’s British Open at St. Andrews. I just finished reading a book entitled **The Spirit of St. Andrews*’ by ”’Dr. Alister MacKenzie**. The book is kind of a philosophical essay on how a golf course ”should* be architected. During the course of the book, he makes a strong case that St. Andrews is the greatest course in the world, not for its extreme beauty, but rather for the strategic decisions that confront golfers on every hole. The architect (if there even was one) doesn’t dictate how the hole should be played, but rather the golfer does. For instance, he describes in great detail the 11th hole in which each member of his foursome took completely different routes to the hole, varying in direction up to 100 yards left or right from the midline of the fairway in an effort to play around various hazards that are on the hole.

He also spoke of how, in his view, a hole cannot be truly great unless it can be played in its entirety with a putter! That is, a great hole should not exclude beginners who have difficulty carrying their shots long distances. But at the same time, it needs to be interesting and challenging to the professional.

Well, anyway, watch this week and you’ll see some golf unlike any that’s played elsewhere. It should be a lot of fun.

O’Connor to resign from Supreme Court

[CNN.com](http://www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/07/01/resignation.supreme/index.html:) “Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, the first woman to serve on the high court and the key swing vote in some of the nation’s highest-profile cases, announced her resignation Friday.”

Well, there it is. Now, please, Mr. President, please send a reasonable candidate to the Senate for confirmation. You know the type I mean… someone who doesn’t place the Bible ahead of the Constitution on matters of law.
