McKellen Eager To Join Hobbit

From [Sci Fi Wire](

Ian McKellen, who played Gandalf the wizard in the three Lord of the Rings movies, posted on his personal blog that he is interested in reprising the role in the Peter Jackson-produced Hobbit movies now in development.

How could it be any other way? NOBODY else could be Gandalf. He IS Galdalf!

A More Perfect Union

One of the great speeches ever? You decide. Don’t take the sound-bite artists in the news agencies and talk shows at their word. They distilled this brilliant 40 minute speech down to 15 seconds of sound bites that appear to make Obama exonerate his minister, which couldn’t be further from the truth.

It’s gut check time:

Imagine… speaking to us as if we’re adults and not taking the easy way out.

This cemented my vote for him.

Liar, liar, pants on fire

From [](

Sen. Hillary Clinton said she “misspoke” last week when she gave a dramatic description of her arrival in Bosnia 12 years ago, recounting a landing under sniper fire.

Yeah, right. Isn’t it amazing how she didn’t lie when she blatantly tells untruths to make herself look more experienced in international politics, it’s that she misspoke?

Listen, if it walks, talks, and quacks like a duck, she’s lying her ass off.

Now, Mrs. Clinton, let’s see if you have the guts to hit this straight on the way Obama did with his problems last week in one of the greatest speeches I’ve ever heard! If I had to guess, I’d say the chances are slim.

Not Just a Witch Hunt

From [CNN](

…It is not just about the sexual affair. It is about lying under oath. It is about betraying the public trust…

No, that’s not about Bill and Monica. It’s from the prosecutor in Detroit about Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his chief of staff. But it does sound strikingly similar, doesn’t it?

Well, those you that thought that the impeachment of Bill Clinton was just a witch hunt, you’re just plain wrong. It was always about lying under oath, not the sexual picadillos of the now-ex-president.

Bill Richardson to endorse Obama

From [](

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson plans to endorse Sen. Barack Obama in the Democratic race for president today, an Obama campaign spokesperson told CNN. In an e-mail to supporters, Richardson said Obama will be a “historic and a great President, who can bring us the change we so desperately need.”

Hello Mr. Vice President. I’ve thought for a while that he’d be a good choice. This cements it. Throwing your support behind Obama after this last week’s controversy is courageous. He should remember that when it comes time to choose a running mate.

Race, faith and politics

From [](

The revelation of controversial comments made by the longtime pastor of Sen. Barack Obama, and the equally hot aftermath from the general public that led to the junior senator from Illinois delivering a strong speech/sermon on race in America… While many white Americans will look at Memorial or Veterans Day as an opportunity to celebrate our armed forces, African Americans do the same, but also will think historically about black troops hung from trees, still in their uniforms. They will think of black soldiers returning home to America during World War II forced to sit in the back of the train, while German Nazis got to sit up front.

Remember everyone, Context is everything. I do not condone the comments of Reverend Wright, but neither do I condemn them. I find them to be horrific, but at the same time, I’ve never been black in America.

I’ve believed for quite a while that fundamentally, racism was a dead issue in America. Oh sure, I knew there were still racist, a-holes out there, but that they were the fringe and that society as a whole had evolved past that.

Clearly, I was far too optimistic, and clearly wrong. As Dave Winer said, the reality is that we’re all racists. If you dig down inside, you’ll find that you are. If you’re more evolved, that realization will shock and offend you. I know that I hate the thought that I could be something so asinine, but there it is. If, like me, it bothers you, you fight those instincts with everything you’ve got, and you try to make sure that they’re less in the next generation.

Bionic Is Dead

From [Sci Fi Wire](

David Eick, co-executive producer of NBC’s SF series Bionic Woman, confirmed to SCI FI Wire that the network has indeed canceled the show, though the network has not yet officially said as much.

Well, you had to expect it. The show was intriguing, but ultimately it fell flat. See Terminator: The Sarah Connors Chronicals for a better example of how to do a SciFi series.
