Microsoft to Attack Linux?

Maybe they’re starting to feel the heat.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer says the company will use its community of professionals to outsmart the open-source movement. Meanwhile, a new version of Linux promises to be more attack-resistant.

Hmmm… I’m not worried about [[Linux]] being able to weather the storm. I’m worried about a lack of ability on the part of business executives everywhere to see through the M$ FUD.

Curtis Strangs Readies the Troups

He’s a [[Ryder Cup]] veteran and now the captain. Can he get the US team pumped up for the rematch?

Strong-willed and keenly focused — attributes that served him so well as one of the game’s top players — the 47-year-old Strange, a two-time U.S. Open champion, has proven to be the perfect man to weather an often trying and sometimes stupefying three-year term as Ryder Cup captain. He has been a foundation stone for the team he leads as well as for the biennial competition he reveres.

Two Towers Trailer Description?

This sounds awesome! I just hope it’s the real deal

###Spoilers!

I received a mysterious email from a spy that is new to me. He or she sent me a few details on the new TTT trailer! I’m not vouching for any of this, but if it is true it sounds VERY good! Take a look!

Don’t read this story if you don’t want any spoilers. There’s quite a few in this short description, and some involve major (but understandable) changes to the story as told in the book.

The US Says… Bring it On!

The US [[Ryder Cup]] team is ready to go.

…U.S. teammates were to leave this southeastern Irish town on Monday morning to fly to England to play in an event they expected to be held a year ago. But the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the United States prompted the postponement of the Ryder Cup.

It’s been a tough year, but I think that we’re all ready for some friendly competition now. Fore!

Europeans Are Ready to Rumble

It’s [[Ryder Cup]] time again!

The European and U.S. teams were finalized 13 months ago. But the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks in America forced a year’s delay in the event, and not everyone has been able to regain their momentum as the matches approach once again.

This is our chance to show those bastards (the terrorists, that is) that they can’t keep the western spirit down!

I love the [[Ryder Cup]]! Let’s have some fun!

Ellison Resigns from Apple

Is this, as he says, lack of time, or rather lack of confidence?

Oracle CEO Larry Ellison has resigned from Apple Computer’s board of directors, saying he no longer has the time to devote to the company.

“I will continue to offer my advice to (Apple CEO) Steve (Jobs) and the executive management team at Apple, but my schedule does not currently allow me to attend enough of the formal board meetings to warrant a role as a director,” Ellison said in a statement Friday.

Hmmmm… I hope this isn’t the start of a mass exodus from Apple. The company is really starting to make strides with its beautiful new computers and its awesome OSX operating system.

I can’t imagine why Ellison would exit now!

Microsoft is at it Again!

Isn’t this just typical.

A computer-industry trade group took a shot at Microsoft’s credibility Wednesday, alleging that the recently released Windows XP Service Pack 1 violates the software giant’s pending antitrust settlement.

They’re pissing me off again! I wonder if the US Government will take this as a clue that Microsoft has no interest in playing nice with the rest of the world.

Sir Ian Talks Extended Cut

In his [[White Books]], [[Ian McKellen]] gives his impressions of the extended version of [[The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring]].

My impression was that this cut is superior to the previous one and that it is a pity that there are as yet no plans to show it in the cinema, where managers gulp at the thought of a three and a half hour movie, with no interval and thereby less-remunerative refreshment sales. But perhaps I am wrong. Perhaps it’s the greed of one already sated that makes this extra dish so appetising. At first sitting the original cut may be easier to digest. But this DVD is a must for the devotee.

Wow! I can’t wait to see this. I’ve already got mine on order over at [[Amazon.com]].
