Question 2 Gutted?

Jeff Jacoby believes that the legislature will just ignore the obvious will of the people… and he has good reason to think so.

Question 2, the ballot initiative to scrap transitional bilingual education – passed overwhelmingly on Tuesday, and the immediate response from Beacon Hill was a vow to gut it. Robert Antonioni, the Senate chairman of the Education Committee, told reporters to expect *potentially significant change” in the new law. ”I think people just saw this as a quick fix,” he said, ”and I don’t think they ever got into the details of this plan.*

In other words, the voters were too dumb to know what they were doing when they approved Question 2, so lawmakers needn’t show deference to their decision. That condescending attitude now pervades the Massachusetts State House, and if it isn’t vigorously challenged, it is going to doom the initiative and referendum process in this state to extinction.

If I was a voter in Massachussettes, and I am, this would just piss me off. If they do gut it, everyone in this state needs to make sure to vote these guys out the next time they have the chance.

But this is just the tip of the iceberg. Read on to find out how condescending and elitist these guys really are.

This is what we got rid of

Howie Carr has a few words about what O’Brien would do if she had gotten into office.

Remember… the past is prologue.

She does have compassion for at least a few of the families of Massachusetts, although the “working* part is still in question. If she would just say she’s fighting for the “hack families* of Massachusetts, that would be more precise.

Voting Irregularities in Boston?

What’s up with this?? If it’s true, it totally sucks!

Romney campaign adviser Rob Gray said officials with the Service Employees International Union were seen entering voting booths with some voters in Ward 11, Precinct 4 of Jamaica Plain.

How can this **possibly** be happening.

US Missile Wipes out Al Queda

I just love stuff like this.

A US missile fired from a spy plane destroyed a car in a lawless stretch of northern Yemen Sunday, killing a senior Al Qaeda leader and five other members in the first American military strike against the terrorist group outside Afghanistan since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

Let this be a notice to everyone… we have the technology to wage war without even involving humans.

M$ No Longer on Top?

In Spain, at least, M$ is no longer the platform of choice for the government.

Luis Millan Vazquez de Miguel, a college professor turned politician, is succeeding where multibillion-dollar, multinational corporations have failed. He is managing to unseat Microsoft Corp. as the dominant player in the software industry, at least in his little part of the world.

Excellent! Now, if other world governments would follow suit, we’d have a revolution on our hands!

Unfortunately, that doesn’t look likely here in the US with the recent court decision.
