More Details on FOTR Extended Edition

This is just getting better and better!

Almost 12 hours later I walked out with a handful of others (a lot of people left…but not TORN!). I was amazed at the fact that there were still MORE things we hadn’t seen on this DVD! There were over 2000 concept art sketches, an interactive map of Middle-earth and New Zealand. And FOUR full tracks of commentaries from producers, directors, artists and actors from the film.

Those who vow not to get ‘milked’ into buying this edition of the DVD will cave in as fast as Legolas can sling arrows and shoot them, my friends…this is DVD making at its finest.

Maybe my wife will understand now why I have to own it [[:-)]]

FOTR Extended Special Edition is a Must Have

Well… of course it is (if you’re a fan like me :-), but according to this review, it’s a must have for everyone!

Some movies feel so perfect that sometimes one may not want to know how they were made, fearing that too much insight into the production process may spoil one’s enjoyment of the film and destroy the magic. Not in this case. As much information as this “behind the scenes” DVD provides, it cannot diminish a filmgoer’s enjoyment of the film. On the contrary, it makes the experience more pleasurable. And somehow, you feel you were a part of the whole experience. This is not just another movie, this is something special, unique, a true landmark in moviemaking. Like many cast and crew members, I do believe that this is an historical event.

Microsoft Mac Manager Steps Aside

I’m not sure I like the sounds of this.

Microsoft said Friday that it has transferred the head of its Macintosh business unit to another division, leaving open the question of who will lead the company’s Mac efforts.

In recent years, Microsoft has been pretty kind to the Mac platform. I hope that this news doesn’t bode ill for the future.

Congratulations Jimmy Carter!

Jimmy Carter won the Nobel Peace Prize! All I can say is that **It’s about time!**.

Former President Jimmy Carter won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for his commitment to diplomacy over war…
Carter, 78, was cited for his peacemaking during and after his White House years, including brokering the Camp David accords in the Mideast, mediating other conflicts around the globe, serving as an election observer and promoting human rights.

He should have won nearly 25 years ago when he got Israel and Egypt to talk to one another about peace.

Legitimate Spam?

This article claims that there are good uses for [[Spam]]. You be the judge.

Consumers are increasingly applying the stigma of spam to marketing messages of all stripes, causing headaches for legitimate advertisers on the Web and beyond.

In my opinion, there is no legitimate reason to send me email that I didn’t ask for. ***PERIOD***.

Bonds Propels Giants to Victory

It’s about time he showed up for a post-season game!

Now we can only hope for chants of “The Giants win the pennant, the Giants win the pennant… ” [[:-)]]

Bonds was a playoff winner at last, homering and scoring the first two runs as the San Francisco Giants held off the Braves 3-1 in the decisive Game 5 of the NL Division Series Monday night.

**YEAH!**

User Interface Hall of Shame: Lotus Notes

I wish this wasn’t the case… I really do!

We wish we found IBM’s Lotus Notes a long time ago. This single application could have formed the basis for the entire site. The interface is so problematic, one might reasonably conclude that the designers had previously visited this site, and misread “Hall of Shame” as “Hall of Fame”. Lotus Notes… contains almost every example of inefficient design illustrated thoughout the entire Hall of Shame site.

And I have to use this at work!!!

Having had to use Notes for e-mail for a few weeks before I quit my last company, I can fully appreciate your criticisms. In the developers’ defense, since Notes is supposed to run on various OS platforms, it is important that it **suck** equally on all of them.

I guess I can understand that… except that on the 5.0 product, it doesn’t work cross-platform anymore! Now what’s their excuse?
