No More Questions on Nomar

Three home runs and eight RBIs is a great way to celebrate a birthday!

Nomar Garciaparra merely did what Ted Williams told everyone to do. Get a good pitch to hit and swing away. It wasn’t as if he planned to hit three home runs on consecutive at-bats in two innings, the last of them a Joe Hardy-style grand slam.

The Legend of Ted lives on.

Mass. Legislature Lies to Get Tax Increase Passed

In yet another scummy move, the Mass. state legislature claims it needs to increase taxes because eventhough the budget has been slashed, there’s still a shortfall.

The comments may have made the big tax increase easier to swallow and, on paper, state spending appears to shrink this year by $100 million. But upon closer examination, some see that total state spending is poised to rise by approximately 2.6 percent, or $600 million, aside from expected vetos by the governor that will reduce the increase by $300 million. That includes hundreds of millions of dollars in expenses that were shifted off the budget.

It sounds to me like they’re playing the same games as Enron and World.com.

Bad Start for Bush

In stock-market terms, it’s been the worst start of any President in US history.

PRESIDENT BUSH, who marked his 18th month in office this weekend, is off to the worst start of any president in the last 75 years.

At least, that is, as measured by the performance of the Standard & Poor’s index of 500 stocks.

You gotta give the guy a bit of a break, what with **9/11*’ and the lying of the ‘*BigCo’s**, but still, I’ve definitely felt the pain of this first 18 months.

Worldcom Files for Bankruptcy

Here we go again! Will it ever stop?

Telecommunications giant WorldCom files for bankruptcy, representing the largest such filing in U.S. history. The company says it will emerge stronger; customers may get caught holding a dead line.

Yikes! I don’t want to see what the market is going to do today. I’ll be hiding under my desk for the duration!

ILM Switches to Linux

ILM will be using Intel based computers running Linux for most of their special effects work.

The technical effects studio has switched from using RISC-Unix workstations from SGI to using Intel-based Dell systems running Linux for the bulk of its animation and special effects work, said Cliff Plumer, ILM’s chief technology officer. As part of the conversion, ILM recently deployed 600 Pentium 4 workstations.

Very interesting… my heart skipped a beat when I heard Intel, but then I heard Linux and all was right in the universe.

Monty Sets the Course Record!

I’m glad to hear this. Monty is very deserving of a major and more nice attention.

He was downright chirpy Friday afternoon. Positively chatty. Witty. Charming. Brilliant. A totally different guy from the petulant child who threw a bit of a tantrum Thursday afternoon behind the 18th green when he, well, didn’t like the way a question was phrased and stormed off.
